The Greatest Journey

They began the arduous journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem because the government demanded it. It would have been easier to stay at home, especially considering that Mary was pregnant and her due date was near. Nevertheless, they made the trip. After arriving and staying in the most meager accommodations, Mary delivered the child, that special child, Immanuel, who had come to save the world.

That “child’s” journey began before the world was created. He knew that mankind would turn its back on the Creator. He knew that redemption and reconciliation could only come through the sacrifice of His person. It would have been easier for Him to stay at home in Heaven in the presence of His Father, but He emptied Himself and traveled into our presence. His presence was the presence of the Living God.

His journey took him from heaven to earth and from the wood of the manger to the wood of the cross. It took Him from the grave to a victorious resurrection and back to the presence of His Father to sit at His right hand. And He shall reign over the house of Jacob forever. Amen.

May our journey take us through Him that we might live forever with Him.
