How Are You Doing?

How are you doing? All of us have been asked that question. The generally accepted response is, “Fine, thank you. How are you?” This is sometimes followed with, “Not so bad” or “Still kickin.” I can’t speak for you, but I’m still not sure what “Still kickin” means.

Haven’t you ever wanted to give a truly honest response to, “How are you doing?” (Maybe you have.) “I’ll tell you how I’m doing. I’m in a war with Father Time and he’s beating me to a gel. My back hurts and so do my shoulders, knees, and feet. I can get down OK; it’s getting back up that’s the problem. When I get hurt, I don’t heal as fast as I used to and speaking of 'hurt,' every time it rains I am reminded of almost every injury I ever suffered."

Maybe we would like to say, “Physically, I’m doing great but…, “ with this being followed by a list of the problems we are facing at home, school, church, or at work.

If our hope is in Christ, we can say with the Apostle Paul, “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”

(II Corinthians 4:16-18)
