What Part Does Christ Play in My Life?

The question has been asked of me, “What part does Christ play in your life?” I understand the intent of the question but must in all honesty say that He does not play a part in my life. My job and my hobbies can be considered parts of my life. Even my church activities are but a part of my life. But these are not the sum total of who I am.

How can faith be separated from any aspect of the believer’s life? Paul states in Colossians 3:1-4 that I have been raised with Christ and therefore must set my heart and mind on things above, that my life is hidden in Christ and that He is my life. This relationship is the essence of who I am as a person and therefore this relationship should permeate every part of my being.

In Galatians 2:20 Paul further states, “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

It is when we battle between wanting the things of the earth and the things above that our joy is often stolen. Jesus said that no man can serve two masters (see Matthew 6:24). If we live for the things of this world, they will master us. If we live for Him, He will be our Master and our hope and joy will be in Him for this present time and for eternity.
