Restaurant Hospitality

It was the first time Dee and I had been to this steakhouse. We had heard that the food was good. We also heard that the service was great. We had no idea!

Upon our arrival, we were greeted and seated by a young lady whose efforts were enthusiastic to say the least. She asked us if it were our first time at this restaurant. In retrospect we may have changed our response. However, we were honest. “Why, yes it is.” With a big smile she stuck a small American flag in the bucket of raw peanuts that was sitting on our table. Now everyone knew and treated us accordingly. Please keep in mind that Dee and I don’t care to have a lot of attention drawn in our direction. But it was.

The greeter’s next responsibility was apparently to point out where various places were in the restaurant, including the restrooms. “The outhouse is right over there,” pointing in the correct direction at the sign saying “Outhouse” so everyone who was already staring at us would know what we were discussing. “It’s not really outside. It’s in the building.” Well, that's good to know!

“If there is anything else you need, please let me know.”

How about, “Point to the exit.” Or, “Listen Sunshine, we came here for a quiet dinner. Your absence may make that possible.” All Dee and I could do was smile and thank this young lady for her kindness. She was doing her best. And as much as the attention was a little overwhelming, we had to appreciate her attitude.

Yes the food was very good. The server did an excellent job. But what we remember most about our visit was Sunshine. She made us smile. She gave us joy. May we bring others a little joy and sunshine when we meet them. May they remember us with a kind smile. More so, may they see the love of Christ when they see us.
