"I Got
Here as Fast as I Could."
When my youngest son was about seven years old he was riding his bicycle
back in the pasture on the farm. I was in the yard working in the garden
when I saw him pedalling down the driveway as fast as he could and heard
him calling to me, “Dad, I got here as fast as I could.” When
I looked up I could see that his ear was bleeding. Apparently, he had
scratched himself on some briars and the injury scared him much more than
was warranted. My son knew he was injured. He was scared and hurt. And
he was sure if he could get to his father, “Dad,” could take
care of the problem.
When we face injury, pain, and fear in our lives we need to turn to our
Heavenly Father. “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s
mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety
on Him because He cares for you (I Peter 5:6-7).
“For you did not receive a spirit that makes a slave again to fear,
but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by Him we cry, ‘Abba,
Father.’ The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are
God’s children. Now, if we are children, then we are heirs –
heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in His sufferings
in order that we may also share in His glory. I consider that our present
sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed
in us (Romans 8:15-18).
